Finding Your Ideal Workout

The First Mistake

The first thing that most people assume about achieving top physical condition is this: i can do this; it's easy. As these unfortunate people will soon discover, it's not easy. Getting in shape takes a drive that most people don't have; almost a sixth sense, say. You must be intense, you must work hard, and you gotta bust your ass. Read on.

What Do I Want to Look Like?
Ask yourself: do I want to be truly huge, with viens poppin out like you wouldn't believe? Do I want ripped abs and a well-defined body? Do I just want to slim down? Each question has an answer. To get huge, you gotta concentrate on weight training. Use heavy weights with few reps, and emphasize shorter, more intense workouts, rather than long, moderate ones.
If you want ripped abs, well, I'm probably not the one to tell you that. I really haven't the slightest idea how to perfect them (other than pumping up with steroids and creatine), but i can tell you that if you wanna see 'em, here's the answer:situps, situps, situps; run, run, run. You've gotta burn the fat off the muscle in that area, and once you've done that, then you concentrate more on the situps. I suggest to work on the obliques (the sides) as much as you do the rectus abdominus(the "sixpack"), if you wanna get rid of those love handles. For the rest of the body, perform isotonics (e.g. pushups) and isometrics (pushing or pulling on an immovable object).
If you wanna slim down, all I can say again is, run, run, run. Bike, Bike, Bike. Put more emphasis on your cardiovascular endurance than anything else, because you know you'll live long and well if you do.

My Ideal Workout
My normal workout consists of running for about one hour and strength training for about 20 minutes. In addition to that, I usually perform sets of pushups practically whenever there's space to do them. I usually reserve one day where I do total abdominal training in addition to the normal workout. I always work them with leg raises and situps until I'm totally drained.
Now your type of workout depends on how much your body can withstand. If you're a beginner, start with some running for about 20 minutes a day, three times a week. Once that becomes easy, work up to 30 minutes a day, as many days of the week as you can. Eventually, work up to an hour everyday.

Now that you've got you're cardiovascular endurance up to standard, it's time to move on to the strength training(keep in mind this is in addition to the cardio). What I normally do are isotonics and isometrics; isotonics is basically weight training without weights; use your own arms for resistance (eg:use your left hand pressed upon your right for bicep curls, etc.); Isometrics involve straining particular muscles for a period of time (try to lift something you know you can't and hold it for about a minute).
These exercises should improve your overall strength, and overtime your appearance.

Thank you for your time. I will be answering all your questions periodically in this colomn.
